How to play Long Shot
Choose how bold to go. Name a country that fits the condition you chose before 25 seconds run out.
Five rounds, three choices
- Read the region and three conditions. Each card shows its points and how many country names fit.
- Choose Safe (5 points), Medium (12) or Bold (20). Your 25-second clock starts when you choose.
- Type one country and press Enter or Submit. A recognised country commits the shot. If it fits both the region and your chosen condition, you earn the card’s points.
- Read the reveal, then choose Next. Five bold successes score 100.
A worked example
This is a constructed example, not today’s answer. Suppose a Europe card asks for a name with eight or more letters. Portugal has eight letters, so it fits. Canada has six letters and is in the Americas, so it does not.
Bonuses use the displayed common English name. UK is accepted as an alias for United Kingdom; the bonus counts the thirteen letters in United Kingdom, not the two letters you typed.
Mistakes and the clock
An unknown name stays in the input so you can correct it while time remains. A recognised country outside the selected condition, Pass or timeout earns zero for that shot. The clock continues when you leave the tab or refresh; returning does not grant more time. The next clock starts only after you choose its condition.
What counts as a country here?
The fixed bank contains 193 UN members plus the Holy See (Vatican City) and the State of Palestine: 195 names. Common aliases and accents are accepted. Regions use the UN M49 grouping; for example Russia is in Europe and Cyprus is in Asia. Names or territories outside this stated bank are not accepted. A missing spelling is not proof that a place does not exist.
Condition counts come from this bank. They are not player popularity, rarity percentages or a measure of intelligence. The current edition uses geography and spelling; it does not cover every trivia topic.
Daily, practice and sharing
Everyone receives the same versioned daily conditions, changing at midnight UTC. Practice has its own seed and cannot replace a completed daily score. Your score is stored in this browser; there is no account or cross-device sync. Share sends the score and shot marks with a link, without your countries.
