How to play Double Take
Untangle two familiar films from one original mashup. Two answers, two little victories.
Make your first move
Read the mashup and type either film title. Press Enter or Check; a correct title locks in, so you can concentrate on the other half.
The rules in this edition
Find both films in any order. A correct film locks in. You get six incorrect guesses per mashup; unknown titles and repeats cost nothing. Each mashup is worth up to 20 points, minus 3 per wrong guess or hint. Three mashups make a round.
Separate two ideas before choosing a title
Imagine a constructed mashup about an ocean rescue mixed with a time-travelling train. The point is to separate the rescue story from the time-travel story, rather than search for a film containing both.
- List the two distinctive situations. Ignore the sentence connecting them: that connection was invented for the puzzle.
- Use the accepted answer pool to make a title hypothesis. An unknown title does not use a guess; a recognised wrong title does.
- When one title locks in, work on the other story. Read the explanation before moving to the next mashup.
One found film is worth 10 points. A completed pair is worth 20, reduced by 3 for each wrong guess or revealed clue. A skipped pair earns zero; three mashups make a 60-point round.
This is a constructed lesson, not the current daily answer.
Why was my title rejected without using a guess?
This edition accepts the 12 films listed in the answer pool and their included aliases. It is not a search of every film ever released. Choose a listed title; spelling punctuation is normalised.
Daily play, practice and saved progress
Daily editions change at midnight UTC. Practice uses a separate round. Five solo games share a small M1 catalogue, so dates and practice rounds can reuse content. Up to 200 recent solo rounds are stored in this browser, without an account or cross-device sync. Clearing browser data removes them.
Scores use this game’s own point scale and cannot rank players across different games. Solo challenge codes select the same content for a friend; they do not create a shared online room.
Content and sources
The mashup descriptions are original combinations of film situations. They are not quotations or copied plot summaries. The 12-film answer pool is deliberately limited.
