How to play Film Festival
Build a programme from a shared hand of films. Using the obvious pick may block your finale.
Make your first move
Read all five screening requirements and the film cards. Choose one film per screening. Each title can be used once; choosing an already-used film swaps the assignments.
The rules in this edition
Fill five screenings from the supplied film cards. Each film can be used once. All facts needed are on the cards; film knowledge is optional. The finale must share the opening director. Swap films freely. A new complete check costs 3 points after the first; repeats cost nothing. Several valid programmes may exist. Revealing a solution finishes with 0 points.
Reserve a director pair before filling easy slots
In a constructed programme, the finale must share the opening director. Your hand has just one director represented twice. Both of those films also fit an easier middle slot.
- Reserve the two films with that director for the opening and finale. Using either in the middle could leave no pair for the endpoints.
- Fill the middle screenings from the remaining films, using the visible year, animation and topic facts. You do not need to memorise them.
- Check a complete programme. Reconsider the failing conditions together; swapping a film can affect more than one screening.
A correct programme earns 25 points, minus 3 for each earlier distinct complete check. Rearranging is free and rechecking the same programme is blocked without a cost. Revealing a valid solution ends the round for zero points. More than one valid programme may exist.
This is a constructed lesson, not the current daily answer.
Why did another screening change when I selected a film?
A film can appear only once. Selecting a film already in another screening swaps the two assignments. Check both affected requirements, especially the relationship between the opening and finale.
Daily play, practice and saved progress
Daily editions change at midnight UTC. Practice uses a separate round. Five solo games share a small M1 catalogue, so dates and practice rounds can reuse content. Up to 200 recent solo rounds are stored in this browser, without an account or cross-device sync. Clearing browser data removes them.
Scores use this game’s own point scale and cannot rank players across different games. Solo challenge codes select the same content for a friend; they do not create a shared online room.
